At the end of the 2006 season, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that their uniforms, which remained unchanged since their first season, would be completely redesigned for the following 2007 season. However, not only the Diamondbacks’ uniforms will change, but many faces of the franchise will change as well.
Fans’ favorite Luis Gonzalez will not return as the left fielder for the Diamondbacks. Being considered the most popular player in the franchise history, "Gonzo" signed a one-year deal worth about $7 million to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2007 season. Another Diamondback, Craig Counsell, signed a two-year deal with Milwaukee Brewers and is not going to return to Arizona in 2007. The team’s pitcher Miguel Batista signed a three-year deal with the Mariners in December 2006.
On January 6, 2007, the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired left-handed pitcher Randy Johnson New York in exchange for right-handed pitchers Luis Vizcaino, Ross Ohlendorf, Steven Jackson, and infielder Alberto Gonzalez. The franchise extended Johnson's deal through the 2008 season. On January 15, Arizona signed Juan Cruz and Jorge Julio to one-year deals. On January 19, outfielder Alex Romero was signed.
Jay Bell, a longtime Diamondback, became the team’s bench coach to dedicate more time to his family. Thom Brennaman moved to the Cincinnati Reds franchise to work with his father Marty Brennaman signing a four-year contract. In 2007, Arizona will have a young team including Brandon Webb, Orlando Hudson, Chris Young, Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin, Chad Tracy, Stephen Drew, and Miguel Montero.
