MLB weekend sees new players pay dividends

With the MLB trade deadline ending last Thursday, the past weekend saw almost all of the traded players make immediate impacts with their new teams. Perhaps the biggest trade which sent Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers, proved extremely worthy for Los Angeles. Ramirez finished the weekend 8-13 with 2 home runs, 4 runs and 5 RBI. Jason Bay who was part of that trade gave Boston Red Sox fans a reason to cheer as he finished his weekend 4-11 with 1 home run, 3 runs batted in and 6 runs scored including the game winner on Friday. Both players made plenty of noise and gave their new teams fans plenty to cheer about. Other notable players that had good weekends with their new squads include Ken Griffey Jr. who had 2 RBI in his debut with the Chicago White Sox. Xavier Nady had six RBI and four hits on Sunday for the Yankees and Mark Teixeira hit a grand slam for the Angels in that same game. With all the speculation of the impact of these trades, at least for this weekend all parties have to be thrilled. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the MLB season goes for these players and teams and the hunt for the playoffs wears down.
