Braves News

Upton, Freeman Key Braves Offense

The Atlanta Braves have taken a somewhat commanding lead mid-way through the month, and as of June 17, sit at the top of the East Division of the National League ahead of the Washington Nationals by 6.5 games. The team’s struggles earlier in the month make the lead all the more impressive, as the Braves went 2-5 on their seven-game road trip from June 6-12.

Part of the success has come from the power behind Justin Upton’s work at the plate. Upton has continued to lead the team in home runs, highlighted by a 435-foot home run on June 12, which is slightly higher than his league-leading season average of 427.9 feet. Freddie Freeman has also stepped up to provide the team with a boost on offense, and leads the team in batting average (.320), RBI (46), hits (70) and on-base percentage (.377).

Purchase Braves tickets for all upcoming games, which includes home contests at Turner Field against the rival New York Mets (June 17-20), Arizona Diamondbacks (June 28-30), and Miami Marlins (July 2-4).

Braves Fight Through Injuries to Win Six Straight

A six-game win streak has brought the Atlanta Braves back to life after facing injuries and close losses throughout the May campaign. The Braves will need to fill in the holes left by relief pitchers Jonny Venters and Eric O’Flaherty, both of whom underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery this month. On the plus side, offensive powerhouses have helped keep the Braves surging forward. Left fielder Justin Upton is leading the team with 14 home runs, 44 hits, 28 RBI and a .273 batting average with just a week left in May; while rookie Evan Gattis has been a pleasant surprise for the Braves, tallying four home runs, 11 RBI and a .267 batting average for the month.

The Braves completed a three-game sweep of the division rival Washington Nationals in mid-April before splitting a four-game series to kick off the month. Atlanta will face even more divisional competition through June, when the squad travels to Citi Field from May 24-26 to face the New York Mets, followed by a return series at Turner Field, June 18-20. Purchase Braves tickets for these heated division rivalries and more as the team fights to remain atop the standings.

Braves Score Big for 2013 with Addition of Both B.J. and Justin Upton

The trade rumors had been swirling around the league, but it was the Atlanta Braves that ultimately proved triumphant in inking a deal with coveted rising star, Justin Upton. For the deal, which also included Chris Johnson, the Braves had to give up a handful of prospects to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but if past performance has been any indication, the trade will ultimately pay dividends down the road. In an interesting twist, earlier in the offseason, the Braves also signed another Upton, Justin’s older brother, B.J., to a five-year deal. The duo had expressed a desire to play together one day, and were pleasantly surprised to have it happen so soon.

The exciting new moves will certainly be a welcome addition to the club, which will be without the beloved and recently retired, Chipper Jones, for the first time since 1993. Fans can secure 2013 Atlanta Braves tickets for all games from Vivid Seats. The inventory above is stocked, showcasing the variety of matchups available for purchase from the 2013 Atlanta Braves schedule. The season will launch April 1 at home versus the Philadelphia Phillies, with the series finishing out on the 3rd and 4th. The Braves will then host the Chicago Cubs through the weekend, April 5-7, and will also welcome the Kansas City Royals (4/16-17) and Washington Nationals (4/29-30) in the other home stints for April.

Braves to Face Cardinals in Battle of the Wild Cards

The 2012 MLB playoffs will debut a new change instituted at the start of the season, as an additional wild card team has been added and instead of jumping right into a five-game series, the two “extra” squads will face each other in a one-game playoff. For the National League, that means the Atlanta Braves will host the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals in nine innings of baseball for a chance to advance to the Division Series. Purchase your Atlanta Braves playoff tickets today from the Vivid Seats marketplace.

In addition to the excitement surrounding the one-game playoff, it also gives fans at least one more look at the legendary Chipper Jones, who will be retiring at the end of the season. Jones has spent 19 years with the Braves organization and has amassed more than 400 home runs and a career batting average of .300 as a switch hitter. Not too shabby.
