Cubs Hold Astros To 15 Hitless Innings

For the first time since 1972, a Cubs pitcher has thrown a no-hitter. This past Sunday in a game against the Houston Astros (held up in Milwaukee because of the Hurricane down in Texas), Carlos Zambrano broke the 36-year dry spell and pitched a full game with no hits and no runs. Cubs fans that had packed the Brewers' Stadium anxiously held their breath throughout the game in anticipation of the sacred no-hitter. After the last pitch, they exhaled in relief. But even that was only a quick gasp until the next day/game came and Ted Lilly began a no-hitter of his own. It would have been the first time that a team pitched two consecutive no-hitters. Unfortunately for the Cubs, it was not meant to be. That doesn't detract from Lilly's incredible performance, however. He pitched a full 7 innings allowing only one run and one hit. Today, Cubs will face off against Milwaukee at home and look to continue the recent hot streak in pitching. However, they themselves will have to bat against a pitcher with a recent, close no-hitter. C.C. Sabathia will take the mound for the Brewers against Ryan Dempster of the Cubs. The game starts at 7:05 CDT.
