Lefty pitcher Joe Saunders had his doubts earlier in his career. He was unsure if he would be able find a stable job in the Major Leagues. Things were "iffy." Now flash forward to the present where nothing is amiss in Saunders’ great life. Now, he is 14-5, with a 3.07 ERA, playing for the team with the best record in the MLB. He is also a strong bid for the Cy Young Award, the award for the season’s best pitcher. Well, seems like his career is pretty stable for awhile. However, in Saunders’ eyes, his MLB stats and standing are not even close to the joy he recently felt after his wife gave birth to his first daughter in mid-July. But Saunders’ is still very much focused on baseball, despite his shift in priorities as husband and father. The Angels are 18-5 when Saunders starts the game. Saunders, always team-focused, cares more about the team win than his own win. If he pitches but does not get the "W" he does not care as long as the Angels do. He will start this Sunday against the Indians.
