The Angels have suffered some key injuries to their middle infield in the past few weeks. Both Erick Aybar (shortstop) and Howie Hendrick (second baseman) have been battling their respective ways through hamstring injuries. While Aybar is still on the active Angels roster, Kendrick has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Additionally, secondary shortstop Maicer Izturis will need season-ending surgery on his left thumb. With 3 key players out or limping at best the Angles infield is looking pretty barren, which is why manager Mike Scioscia has been considering some last minute trades to bolster his ailing infield. He better act soon though, as the trade deadline for players with postseason eligibility ends this upcoming Monday. While no official names have been named as of yet, speculation has pointed towards David Eckstein of Toronto or Baltimore's Juan Castro, among others. Scioscia is still considering his options which may also include moving outfielder Juan Rivera to second base.
Tonight the Angels play Texas in game 2 of a 4-game series. 13-5 Ervin Santana of the Angels takes the mound against 1-3 Dustin Nippert. Game time is 7:05 p.m. PDT.
