Yankees News

Pitching Keeping Yanks in Contention

Considering the fact that Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, and Derek Jeter have combined to play just eight games, the New York Yankees have had a remarkably successful year thus far. With a 38-31 record through June 17, the Yanks are only three games out of first place in a crowded AL East race. “The Bronx Bombers” moniker does not apply to the 2013 club, as the team ranks in the bottom half of the league in homers and runs. However, this year’s Yankees have managed to stay competitive due to their performance on the mound, posting a collective ERA of just 3.85, good for fifth in the American League.

As they have done many times in the past, legendary Yankee pitchers Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera are anchoring the staff. Pettitte continues to stay productive, with five wins and a 3.95 ERA at age 41. With a 1.80 ERA and 24 saves, Rivera is as dominant as ever in his 19th season with the franchise.

With the team’s ability to stay afloat even without its most high-profile players, there is no telling just how high the ceiling will be with a healthy squad. Be there at Yankee Stadium to see the most successful franchise in professional sports contend for another title with Yankees tickets from Vivid Seats.

Yankees Resilient in Battle for First Place

Though the New York Yankees have been forced to deal with staggering amount of starters on the disabled list as May winds down, you’d never know it by the looks of their 30-21 record and mere one-game deficit in the AL East behind the Boston Red Sox. The bitter rivals will face each just once more in the first half of the season in a direct test of the top spot when the Yankees host the Red Sox for a three-game series from May 31-June 2. Be sure to purchase your Yankees tickets early to secure a prime seat to what is always an action-packed series.

While a stable of notable Yankees have spent much of the season on the disabled list (Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira, Kevin Youkilis, Francisco Cervelli and Eduardo Nunez), second baseman Robinson Cano has certainly done his best to account for the missing personnel. The four-time All-Star leads the Yankees offense with a .289 batting average, 13 home runs, 59 hits, .347 on-base percentage, and 34 RBI as of May 29. In addition to Cano, the Yankees roster has also benefitted from the bats of Brett Gardner (.264) and Vernon Wells (.263), while the pitching contingent has held up its end thus far, as the bullpen as a whole ranks eighth in the MLB in ERA (3.59).

Yankees Bring Back Proven Stars for 2013 Season

By any other team’s standards, the Yankees had quite a successful campaign in 2012. They finished first in the AL East with a 95-67 record and won the divisional series against the Orioles in five games. However, they were swept in the ALCS, and in the Bronx, if you don’t win it all, nothing else matters. This year, the Yanks kept the band together in hopes of winning it all at least one more time with the current core of superstars. During the offseason, they resigned Andy Pettitte to a one-year, $12 million deal; pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year, $15 million contract; closer Mariano Rivera to a one-year, $10 million deal; and outfielder Ichiro Suzuki to a two-year, $13 million contract. And as a safeguard for the injured Alex Rodriguez, third basemen Kevin Youkilis was signed to a one-year, $12 million deal as well.

Though many of the Yanks are certainly aging, there is no doubt that they’re still playing excellent baseball. Their core of young stars like C.C. Sabathia, Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, and Mark Texieira balance out vets like Jeter and ARod quite adroitly, and this year should be another success. The 2013 Yankees schedule has the squad in a supreme opening day game, as they’ll begin against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on April 1st at 1:05 pm ET. The Yankees will also have April home-stands against the Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, and Houston Astros. Make sure to get your hands on 2013 New York Yankees tickets today to witness the pinstripes in action live.

Sabathia Complete Game Powers Yanks to NLCS

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles were battling for AL East supremacy seemingly all season long, and by September the squads were within a game of each other in a dead-heat for the playoffs. Fittingly, both teams made the postseason and found themselves meeting in the ALDS, but only the Yanks had C.C. Sabathia. Like he has been known to do through his career, Sabathia threw a complete game gem to help the Yankees top the Orioles 3-1 in Game 5, sending the pinstripes to the American League Championship Series en route.

Sabathia’s magnificent four-hitter was his first career postseason complete game, and he was the first Yankee to do so since Roger Clemens in 2000. And C.C. did it under pressure, slithering out of an eighth inning, bases-loaded jam to hold on to the win. The Yankees now go on to face the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium, and there are plenty of Yankees playoff tickets here at Vivid Seats. The matchup has extra tension this year, as it was the Tiger’s who thwarted the Yanks dreams in the divisional series last season.  Andy Pettitte will take the mound for New York to face-off against Doug Fister in Game 1.

Yankees Claim 13th AL East Title in 17 Years

In one of the closest American League East Division races in quite some time, the New York Yankees prevailed just days before the start of the 2012 MLB playoffs to edge out the Baltimore Orioles and claim their 13th division crown in 17 years. They’ll face the winner of the one-game wild card showdown between the Orioles and Texas Rangers in a five-game AL Division Series, so be sure to check out our stock of 2012 New York Yankees playoff tickets on sale now. The Bronx Bombers have solidified home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

Veteran Derek Jeter remained consistent, as usual, maintaining a batting average upwards of .300 and led the squad with 216 hits, while Robinson Cano added 196 hits of his own to go along with 105 runs and 33 homers. On the pitching side, Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes tied for the team lead with 16 wins apiece in a combined 65 appearances.
