Cardinals News

Starting Rotation in Sync for Cards

It’s no mystery how the St. Louis Cardinals have recorded a league-high 45 wins through June 17—the team’s starting rotation has shut down opposing lineups all season long. With a collective ERA of 2.94, the starters in St. Louis have the best mark among starting rotations by a wide margin, with Adam Wainwright (10-3, 2.18 ERA)  and Shelby Miller (8-4, 2.08 ERA) both among the NL’s top five in individual ERA. While the veteran Wainwright has been a front-line pitcher for several years, the 22-year-old Miller is establishing himself as one of the most feared pitchers in the game in just his rookie season, striking out more than 10 batters per nine innings of work.

The pitchers have been outstanding, but part of the credit must go to battery mate, catcher Yadier Molina. While the five-time Gold Glove winner has been the best friend of Cards pitchers when behind the plate, he has been an absolute nightmare for opposing pitchers in the batter’s box, posting a league-best .355 batting average while anchoring one of the most potent offensive lineups in the league. Don’t miss a chance to see this team continue its dominance in all aspects of the game, purchase St. Louis Cardinals tickets from the Vivid Seats marketplace today.

Cardinals Own Best Record in Majors Heading into June

Back with a vengeance, the St. Louis Cardinals are off to a hot start early in the 2013 season. With a 33-17 mark as of May 28, the Cards sit alone atop the majors in terms of wins, and show no signs of slowing down any time soon. Not surprisingly, Cardinals tickets are in high demand, and with nearly two thirds of the season still left, fans areeager to see the team maintain its lead in the always unpredictable NL Central.

Injuries to the bullpen aside, the rotation has found bright spots in Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn, who have helped contribute to the team’s MLB-best 3.11 ERA. Wainwright and Lynn have each tallied seven wins in at least 10 starts, while fellow starter Shelby Miller has compiled an impressive 2.02 ERA. On the offensive end, three regular starters have eclipsed the .300 mark in batting average including Yadier Molina, Matt Carpenter, and Allen Craig. Molina has tallied 63 hits and 27 RBI to go along with a .346 average, while Carpenter and Craig have each added 57 hits and are nearly identical in batting average with Carpenter at .303 and Craig at .302.

2013 Cardinals Ink Cedeno in Season Dedicated to Musial

Former Cardinal and Hall of Fame outfielder Stan “The Man” Musial passed away earlier this year, and the upcoming Cardinals season has been dedicated to the three-time NL MVP and seven-time batting champion. Musial led the Cardinals to three World Series victories in his time, and to boost their shot at bringing home the pennant in his honor, St. Louis signed infielder Ronny Cedeno. The deal is a $1.15 million, one-year contract, and Cedeno will serve a high-quality insurance policy for the injured Rafael Furcal. In addition to Cedeno, the Cardinals also signed infielder Ty Wiggington to a $5 million, two-year contract; and pitcher Randy Choate to a three-year, $7.5 million deal.

The Cardinals finished 89-73 last season to sneak into the postseason as the second Wild Card, but with perennial All-Stars like Yadier Molina, Matt Holliday, and Chris Carpenter on board, the Cards can surely compete for the World Series this year. The 2013 Cardinals schedule has them starting off on April 1st with a road game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the home-opener at Busch Stadium will be on April 8th versus the Cincinnati Reds. From there, the Cardinals will also host the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates in April. Make sure to claim your 2013 St. Louis Cardinals tickets today to be there live as the squad tries to honor Musial with some early wins.

Record-Setting Comeback Sends Cardinals to NLCS

If it were any other team, the baseball-following Nation’s jaws would be dragging against the pavement, but considering the St. Louis Cardinals’ recent playoff history, no one can truly be all that surprised. The Cardinals went down 6-0 in the third inning to the Washington Nationals, but in true Cardiac Cards fashion they rallied to win 9-7, scoring four runs in the ninth inning to pull off the postseason record for largest comeback in postseason history. And in the process they advanced to the National League Championship Series, spoiling the Nats’ effort to win Washington’s first playoff series in 79 years.

The Cardinals don’t have time to bask in glory, however, as they must now focus on a tough-minded San Francisco Giants squad coming off of their own heroics, having won three straight elimination games versus the Cincinnati Reds. With both teams playing extraordinary baseball, this is sure to be an incredible series, and you can find great Cardinals playoffs here at Vivid Seats. The NLCS begins Sunday at 7 p.m. CT at AT&T Park in San Francisco, so be sure to witness the action live.

Cardinals Hope to Repeat Wild Card Magic From A Year Ago

The 2011 World Series champs will have a chance to defend their crown, as the St. Louis Cardinals took advantage of the MLB’s second wild card spot and secured a place in the postseason once again. The squad will head to Atlanta for a one-game playoff, with the winner advancing to the five-game Division Series set to begin the next day. The postseason journey is just beginning, so secure your 2012 St. Louis Cardinals playoff tickets to ensure your seats for the unpredictable ride.

If the Cardinals-Braves matchup sounds familiar, that’s because the two teams also battled to the bitter end last season, with St. Louis prevailing back when there was only one wild card slot. While the Braves returned veteran Chipper Jones for one final season, the Cardinals lost Albert Pujols to the Angels, though it appears they’ve done just as well without him.
