Chicago White Sox News

White Sox beat Tigers 5-1

The Chicago White Sox got a much needed pitching performance from starter John Danks as they beat the Detroit Tigers 5-1 Wednesday night.  One night after a 14 inning game, the Sox needed their starter to eat some innings, and that is exactly what he did.  Danks pitched 6 2/3rds allowing four hits, one walk and one run while striking out six.  The young starter got all the offense he needed in the first inning when Jim Thome blasted a 3-run homer to give the Sox a 3-0 lead.  Detroit managed one run in the 7th inning, but never really theatened as the White Sox pitching staff was in total control.  Chicago added two insurance runs in the 8th inning when Alexei Ramirez drove in two runs with the bases loaded.  Bobby Jenks shut the door on the Tigers as he allowed one hit in an inning of work.  The Sox will look for the sweep when they take on the Tigers in the series finale on Thursday night.
