Sign up for savings, info, and more! With a thrilling 98-93 victory over the Detroit Pistons on April 3, the Celtics earned their sixth straight postseason appearance by clinching a berth into the NBA Playoffs 2013. The Celtics have impressively managed to stay in the thick of the Eastern Conference race despite having to adjust to losing star point guard, Rajon Rondo, to a season-ending knee injury back in January. Several players have stepped up admirably in Rondo’s absence, including Avery Bradley, who took over the starting point guard duties when Rondo went down. The team has also received boosts from Jeff Green, who has at times played all-star level basketball, and Jason Terry, who continues to provide energy and shot-making ability to the veteran club.
Regardless of the injury status of the rest of the team, fans have seen before that the leadership of team captains Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett can carry this team the distance. Since Pierce and Garnett teamed up five years ago, they have led the franchise to two NBA Finals berths, including an NBA Championship in 2008. If the team hopes to again hoist the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy in 2013, they will first have to advance past Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks in a matchup of two of the most storied franchises in the league. Celtics head coach Doc Rivers will surely have the team ready for peak performance, irrespective of the opponents they draw along the way. If the Celtics can advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, they’ll likely get a chance at revenge against the Miami Heat, who knocked them out of the playoffs the previous two years. Purchase Celtics playoff tickets to witness the team battle for an NBA-record 18th championship at TD Garden.
