However, Houston’s transformation into legitimate contenders and one of the most dangerous teams in the postseason truly germinated with its shocking trade for James Harden three days prior to the start of the 2012-13 NBA season. Harden immediately became the team’s No. 1 option, and without missing a beat, earned his first NBA All-Star team selection and led Houston to its first NBA Playoff series since 2009. Now, Harden’s eighth-seeded Rockets (45-37) are set to take on the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder (60-22) in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs. Game 1 is set for April 21 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., and although Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook helped the Thunder claim the season series, 2-1, Harden exploded for 46 points in the Rockets’ 122-119 win on Feb. 20, so fans can expect plenty of fireworks.
Fans that purchase Rockets playoff tickets can look forward to excitement both inside the Toyota Center and on the road. Houston packs the punch to upset any team out west, ending the season second in the NBA in points per game (106.0) and ranking seventh in rebounds (43.4) and sixth in assists (23.2). While the stellar play of Harden, Lin, and Asik has been most outstanding, head coach Kevin McHale has assured that it’s been a total team effort, as Houston has had players like Chandler Parsons and Carlos Delfino emerge as key figures. With Harden’s NBA Finals experience with Oklahoma City, Asik’s Eastern Conference Finals experience with the Chicago Bulls, and the ever-lurking potential for more “Linsanity,” the NBA Playoffs could be a wild ride for the Rockets in 2013.
