The Magic of March MadnessAh yes. The NCAA Final Four tournament. March Madness. Whatever you want to call it, it’s one of the most incredible periods of the year. A time when every other sport seems to take its place in the background, as these future stars of the NBA show off their skills on the collegiate level. A time when everyone recalls their alma mater with extreme fondness (if they qualify for the tournament). A time when alumni and students garb themselves in odd clothing matches but no one cares as long as the colors match the school’s colors. A time when glory can come to even the “little guy.” The structure of the tournament wasn’t always 65 teams though. In its original format (1939-1950), the tournament catered to only eight teams. Then, in 1951-1974, it expanded to sixteen to twenty-five teams. Little by little, as time went on, the tournament grew and grew, until it reached its current format in 2001 when the opening round, play-in game between 64th and 65th ranked team was established. However, since its humble eight team origins the NCAA has always garnered huge popularity among the public. This popularity was intensely magnified by the introduction of TV into the household in the 1950s. Now, fans could watch their favorite collegiate players from the comfort of their own home. However, we both know that home isn’t where you want to be when you watch the 2009 NCAA Finals. The only way to experience the full madness of March Madness is to buy discount NCAA Final Four Tickets from Vividseats.com and see the action live. |
