The 2006 Carolina Hurricanes were the third major professional team located in North Carolina, who reached the championship round in their league. The current team captain is Rod Brind’Amour.

On January 30, 2007, the Carolina Hurricanes lost at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs (4-1). The Hurricanes were 0-for-3 on the power play, so they did not have many chances. However, trailing 2-1 with 12 minutes left, the Canes wasted a chance to get back into the game. On January 27, they were defeated by the Washington Capitals with 7-3. However, a day before the team managed to beat the Capitals at home with 6-2.
