Blackhawks Information

The Chicago Blackhawks is a NHL hockey team representing Chicago, Illinois. They are one of the Original Six. In 1926 the team started to play in the NHL. Its logo is a face of a Native American, which is quite popular but also quite controversial over the past few decades.

The Blackhawks first season was quite but then 1927 they just managed to reach the playoffs , where the Hawks lost the Boston Bruins. The next season was a mucker. Everything changed in 1931 when they managed to make the Stanley Cup Final but they were defeated by the Montreal Canadiens. 1932 didnt turn out to be a successful season for the Hawks they didnt make any progress in the playoff games.

The team gained the Stanley Cup in 1934 due to the brilliant playing of Paul Thompson and Gardiner, who died after the end of that season.

After the victory of 1934 they had a downturn and only in 1938 they came back to the final. The Hawks managed to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs and win their second Stanley Cup, although with very low results for the winner of such a championship.

In 1944, the teams owner Frederic McLaughlin died, and the Hawks remained without any leadership. That was the reason, why by the 1950-s, the team was about to go bust. Then control over the team experiencing big financial problems, was taken by Arthur Wirtz and James D. Norris. The team went through financial reverses, and was reformed. Thus, former Detroit coach and GM Tommy Ivan was hired to be General Manager of the team.

The late fifties was a successful period for the Hawks, mostly because they acquired three young and prospective players: forwards Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita, and defense man Pierre Pilote, veteran forward Ted Lindsay.

In the 1960s, the team made the Cup finals twice more. They lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1962 and the Habs in 1965. The last season of the six-team NHL is considered to be year 1967. In that year, the Hawks were the first to finish. However, they lost in the semifinals to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who showed amazing stability in winning the Stanley Cup.

In 1971 the Hawks reached the Stanley Cup Finals again. Then another downturn followed, which came to an end only in 1982, when they again gained success and proved it the following year. During the second part of the 1980s the Hawks couldnt succeed in the playoffs and were constantly defeated in the first games.

In the 1990s the Hawks made a few finals but didnt manage to win the Cup again.

The last few years are turned out to be feeble for the Hawks, they miss the playoffs again and again. Though their GM Dale Tallon tries to make changes to move from the dead point: he is thinking about reorganizing the team and making some new acquisitions.
