The New Jersey Devils will end this season disappointed after failing to make the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. Although Ilya Kovalchuk led the Devils in goals, the Russian has yet to live up to his $100 million contract. Kovalchuk, statistically speaking, had his worst year in the NHL since his rookie season. The Devils' inability to score goals cost the Devils in the end, ranking near the bottom of the NHL in goals per game.
