Calgary Flames Season UpdateThe Calgary Flames roared through the previous season, finishing with 103 points, which became their best total since 1989. However, in the first round of the playoffs the team lost to the Mighty Ducks in seven games. The Flames’ goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff took two trophies, the Vezina Trophy and the William M. Jennings Trophy, and defenseman Dion Phaneuf set a club record for goals by a rookie with twenty goals. The off-season began with the trade for Alex Tanguay, from the Colorado Avalanche and Darryl Sutter quitting his head coaching position to focus on the duties as the team’s General Manager. In July 2006, Wayne Fleming joined the Calgary Flames after 3 seasons as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers.
