The Sony Open golf championship (the official name is the Sony Open in Hawaii) is a golf competition scheduled during the PGA Tour. The event has taken place at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii, every January since the foundation of the competition. The 2006 winner of the championship is David Toms, an American golf player, born in Monroe, Louisiana, on January 4, 1967. David Toms has been now for a while in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings. He started with the victory in the 15-17 Boys competition at the 1984 Junior World Golf Championship. Later he studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
