As a novella, Truman Capote’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is an undisputed classic, and no one will ever forget Audrey Hepburn in the definitive 1961 film. But as a Broadway musical, the tale is known as a legendary flop. The original 1966 adaptation, which was marred by confusion and alterations, lasted only four days before closing. This time around, thanks to a Richard Greenberg script, the skillful eye of director Sean Mathias, and prime choices in casting, that legacy is about to be flipped on its end. Greenberg's 2002 play, Take Me Out, won the Tony Award for Best Play; and his rendition of this New York City classic will star British actress Emilia Clark, who stars in HBO’s hit show, “Game of Thrones”, as the enigmatic Holly Golightly.
Previews are set to begin on March 4th at the Cort Theatre, with the official opening on March 20th. The play will take place in the same, New York City, World War II-era environment as the book and film, which should please audiences, and Clarke will be joined on stage by six-time Emmy Award-nominee George Wendt. Wendt, who is best known as Norm on the hit television show “Cheers”, will star as Joe Bell; while Cory Michael Smith will play Fred.
