Macbeth Background Information

After returning from battle and with a triumphant campaign, Banquo and Macbeth are acknowledge by a gathering of witches that prophetically salute Macbeth as the royal King of Scotland as well Thane of the Cawdor and honor Banquo as the father of the kings to come. An envoy from King Duncan shortly reaches their destination with news that Macbeth was choice as the Thane of Cawdor.

As Lady Macbeth, was reading a letter sent from her husband, she soon learned of his recent victory and the predictions of the witches’. Upon Macbeths return she encouraged his aspirations and convinced him to assassinate the king, who just recently arrived to the entrance of their castle. In darkness Macbeth murders the king as he was sleeping. Uncovering the murder, Banquo and Macduff stir up the castle and set out to alarm the nobles. Lady Macbeth is successful in her first rung towards her climb to power that she seeks.

Pleadingly Lady Macbeth ask her husband to disregard the past. Now with Banquo being apprehensive and a danger to Macbeth's upcoming throne and she is certain that he must be murdered. Banquo is ambushed and kill by Macbeth’s hired assassins, his young son manages to flee.

Exercising the privileges granted from the assassinated king Macbeth, now, hosts a feast at which Banquo’s spirit appears. The apparition is invisible for all the visitors, so Macbeth becomes worried and resolves to call upon the witches once more.

At the witches cave Macbeth interrupts the middle of their festivities demanding a justification of their prediction. They answer, with a show of a string of visions. Helmeted head is the first phantom and warns Macbeth concerning Macduff. Bloodied child is second speaking broken words as Behold for no one borne of woman shall cause harm to Macbeth. Now the third ghost a child wearing a crown enters holding a tiny tree. He guarantees that Macbeth will not be easily vanquished until time of the great Birnam Wood rides to the High Dunsinane Hill. As the eight kings are the last mental picture revealing Banquo with a mirror held in his hand as the last of the kings. The entrance of Lady Macbeth gives him nerve and ruthlessly together they vow to annihilate any person who is a danger to them.

In the vicinity of Birnam Wood many Scottish exiles grieve for the domination that has withheld their country from the time when Macbeth became ruler. Macduff grieves for the senseless death of his spouse and child, who was murdered on Macbeths orders. The exiles assemble to rally against Macbeth with Malcolm, Duncan’s son serving as the leader.

In hours of darkness within the castle frantic Lady Macbeth is overcome by remorse and fear for her share of the homicidal conspire she was involved in. As her assistant and physician look on in astonishment, she gave in to madness.

Learning of the passing away of his wife Macbeth is informed of the advance of his enemy. He was prepping to meet up with them foreseeing the conflicting armies meet in a skirmish. During the subsequent fight Macbeth meets straight on with Macduff and is mercilessly slain by Macduff amid much rejoicing from the liberated Scots. Before long Malcolm is proclaimed the King of Scotland.
