Ricky Gervais is a well known English comedian and writer. His television programs “The office” and “Extras” catapulted him to fame. He not only wrote and directed the play but also acted in it. He performed the role in "The office" and essayed the role of Andy Millman in "Extras". He also has three stand up tours: “Animals, Politics and Fame”. His pod cast "The Ricky Gervais show" was a massive hit. He has also worked in some films including "Stardust" and "Night at the museum". He is also the lone British actor to act in The Simpsons.

Ricky Gervais is well known for his contribution to "The Sketch show" where he sketched several characters. Another show "Golden years" revolved around the character Clive Meadows who was obsessed with the character of David Bowie. His work "The 11 o' clock show" in 1999 earned great reviews. During this time he also wrote "Bruiser" and "Jim Tavare show". He has also done cameo roles in "Spaced". He has also penned the famous "Flanimals" books. Ricky Gervais’ stand up tours started in 2001 with "rubbernecker". This was followed by "animals" and then "politics". "Fame" was the last part of the trilogy and took place in 2007.

Ricky Gervais has won the Golden globe award three times. He is also a double Emmy winner. Besides these he has also been given the BAFTA awards seven times. The first few episodes of "The office" did not receive much attention but repeat telecasts helped build anticipation for the second series which did very well in the ratings. "The office" has been telecast for audiences in Germany, Canada and France. "Extras" another popular sitcom focused on the background artists who work in movies. It was written and directed by Jeravis and Stephen Merchant. This sitcom bagged the Golden Globe award in 2008.
