Steve Harvey was born in West Virginia and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated high school in 1974. In the mid 1980’s he began doing stand-up in various clubs until 1989 when he participated in the Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search and was a finalist. That led him to a long run as It’s Showtime at the Apollo host. In 1994, ABC gave him a starring role on the show Me and the Boys. From 1996-2002 he starred in his own show on the WB, The Steve Harvey Show. His show won multiple NAACP Image Awards but never made it to receive national critical acclaim. more
In 1997 he joined Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Highley and Bernie Mac in the Kings of Comedy Tour. Spike Lee made a film called The Original Kings of Comedy, which caused Steve Harvey’s popularity to rise. He started a record label on which he released his own R&B cd. He also wrote a book, Steve Harvey’s Big Time. He also had a variety show on the WB of the same title from 2003-2005. In 2005 co-starred in the movie Racing Stripes with David Spade. He is known as the “king of fashion” due to his clothing line. Recently, Harvey has been the host of his own morning radio show, The Steve Harvey Morning Show, which started out airing in L.A. and Dallas on KKBT and KBFB, but in 2005 moved to WBLS in New York under a new syndicate, Premiere Radio Networks and Inner City Broadcasting Corporation. He is back on tour doing stand-up in various cities in the United States. less
