Here is a fresh romantically orientated musical comedy entitled the Wedding Singer. It is the latest musical to enter the touring circuit. It is based upon the Adam Sandler film of the same name. The production first opened on Broadway at the end of April of 2006 at the Al Hirschefeld Theater.
Although the Broadway musical version generally follows a similar storyline as found in the film version from 1998, the characters as well as portions of the plot element has indeed been slightly altered. Another variation from the original film involved Robbie's best friend named Sammy, who in the musical he is a member of Robbie’s musical band however in the film he is a portrayed as a limousine chauffeur. Sammie’s character was also modified, in that they wanted to make his personality more of a "white trash" style as compared to the film version. When Robbie visit the big city to seek out some sort of employment the play depicts him approaching Julia's fiancé Glen rather than the bank as shown in the film.
