Young Frankenstein is a musical based on the 1974 comedy movie of the same name written and directed by Brooks and Gene Wilder. The film (number 28 on the List of the 50 Greatest Comedy Films, by the way) is a parody of the 1931 Universal Pictures adaptation of Mary Shelley's book named Frankenstein. Talking about the musical itself, Young Frankenstein is directed and choreographed with an incredible wit and invention.

The plot of the musical is mostly clear from the movie. Frederick Frankenstein is a respected New York brain surgeon who’s got a little problem – he is an offspring of a mad scientist Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. He insists that there is no connection between him and Dr. Victor and that he is not a mad guy but just a scientist. However, when he inherits a castle in Transylvania from his grandfather, Frederick changes his point of view and travels to see the fortune.

When he comes to the point of destination he meets the hunchback Igor, who, by sheer chance, is the grandson of Victor's henchman. They hired the services of a garrulous lab assistant with a degree from the local community college and a nice name Inga.

They ride off to Castle Frankenstein, where the repulsive housekeeper, Frau Blücher, joined them.

First night in the castle brings Frederick a nightmare where his grandpa entreats him of building a monster in order to join the family business. Young scientist can’t resist the call of his heredity and first thing in the morning he works out the plan of a dangerous experiment in the reanimation of the dead. Frankenstein and his employees carefully dig up a huge corpse in the local graveyard.

Unfortunately, the history with the brain for transplantation repeats it self.

Frederick sends Igor to fetch the brain of a genius saint man, but the unlucky henchman drops it on the way back...
