Jay Leno Background InformationJay Leno had always said when he was growing up that one day he would take Johnny Carson’s job never actually believing he would. Before he landed the coveted spot as the new Tonight Show host in 1992, Leno did standup in the 1970’s. He has opened for Johnny Mathis, John Denver and Tom Jones. He also did commercials for Doritos tortilla chips. He was in the film Collision Course (1989) and appeared in an episode of Good Times along with appearing in Laverne & Shirley and Alice. Most recently Jay Leno played the voice to The Jim Henson Company’s Unstable Fables: Tortoise vs. Hare to be released in late 2008. He is better known for his laid back, late night talk show comedic style more than for his acting roles. He has made a wide amount of cameo appearances from The Simpsons to Baywatch to the WWF. He plans on retiring from The Tonight Show in 2009 and the spot will be handed off to Conan O’Brien. |
