About Govt Mule
Government Mule was made up of Warren Haynes, Allen Woody, and Matt Abts.
The group was formed when, after adding Warren Haynes and Allen Woody to their band for their reunion, the Allman Brothers decided they weren’t going to release any more new material. In 1998,
Dose, their first legit album was released. In 2000 they released
Life Before Insanity and that became their breakthrough album. After Allen Woody passed away that year the band went on tour called “Smile at Half Mast” in homage to Woody.
more Warren Haynes has been busy ever since their rise to popularity barely finding the time to tour with his own band because he tours with the Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh & Friends, and the Dead. After collaborating with members of The Who, Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Cream among others, Warren Haynes and Matt Abts released a series of compilations titled The Deep End as another tribute to Allen Woody.
In 2008, Government Mule performed as a trio. They hadn’t performed together since 2000. Their set was called “Old School Mule.” and they performed earlier songs such as "Wandering Child" and "Thorazine Shuffle."
