His next album "Late for the sky" revealed his despair in the face of a decadent society. This album was followed by "The pretender" which was released in 1976. It is a dark album that came out after the death of his wife. The track "The pretender" is an account of losing in the face of reality. By this time Browne had become famous for his compelling melodies and insightful lyrics. Browne tasted commercial success with the release of the album "Running on empty". In this album Browne went out of the conventional style of recording and combined his concert performances as well as recordings made in hotel rooms, buses, and back stage. The albums that followed were: "Hold out ", "Lawyers in Love", Lives in the Balance", "World in motion", "I’m alive", "Looking east", "The naked ride home", and the most recent "Solo acoustic, vol.1" which was released in 2005.
