Hispanics and Non-Hispanics Alike Applaud the Musical Prowess of Julio Iglesias
Julio Iglesias is believed to be the most commercially successful Spanish singer known to date, because he has been able to sell more than 250 million albums in his career which have been made in 14 languages to allow people all over the world to enjoy his creations. In his long career, a true Julio Iglesias fan would have been able to snare a ticket to watch at least one of his estimated 5,000 concerts. (A rabid fan would probably have been able to get more than ticket.)
Why has Julio Iglesias managed to stay popular all this time It must be more than the fact that his albums were translated into different languages. Perhaps it has to do with his image as a debonair gentleman of the Latin school. Whatever it is that draws people to Julio, Julio himself can credit his being injured in a car accident in September 1963 for drawing him to the world of music. For three years, Julio had to deal with his spinal cord being compressed in the neck region. Although doctors remained doubtful that the young Julio would be able to regain his ability to walk, Julio started learning the guitar so that he could regain dexterity in his hands.
At present, Julio has two children from his first marriage to a Filipina who have followed suit with their own musical careers. Enrique has become very successful as a singer while the other one, Julio Jose, is not so well-known but has also created two CDs of his music.
Julio has eight children all in all from his two marriages.
