Lollapalooza News

Lollapalooooza- what's in a name?

The word "Lollapalootza" was an early 20th century saying meaning "a wonderful person or thing". Lollapalooza was first started in 1991 by Jane's Addiction lead singer Perry Ferrell as a goodbye tour for the band as well as a place where hip-hop, rock, alternative rock, punk, and dance music could share grounds with craft booths and non-profit and political groups. Lollapalooza was held every year until 1997 and then brought back in 2003. The festival originally toured across the United States and Canada with two nights per city but a decline in Lollapalooza ticket sales caused the organizers to cancel the event and eventually make Lollapalooza's permanent home in Grant Park in Chicago. It has since evolved into one of the biggest music festivals in the Midwest, with line-ups that span multiple (if not every) genres. Lollapalooza has hosted some of the biggest names in music with previous headliners such as: Radiohead, Kanye West, Weezer, Nine Inch Nails, Daft Punk and more. When attending a Lollapalooza festival, one is likely to discover new bands, see old favorites, and fit into a niche comprised of every type of person. The festival generally sees about 65,000 people a year and hosts over 70 bands (both mainstream and underground) on five separate stages. A deal made with the Chicago Park District ensures Lollapalooza stays in Chicago until the year 2011. Find your cheap Lollpalooza tickets before it’s too late.
