Stevie Wonder Background Information
American singer, songwriter, and record producer Stevie Wonder has recorded over 30 TopTen hits, won 22 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Best Song, and has been inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters halls of fame.
Blind from infancy, this great musical genius signed with Motown Records at the age of 11, and continues to perform and record for this label to the present day. The performer has 9 U.S. no. 1 hits to his name and record sales totaling over a hundred million units. The singer has recorded several critically acclaimed albums and no. 1 singles. Stevie Wonder writes and produces songs for many modern artists as well.
In spring 2006, Stevie Wonder received new national exposure on the top-rated American Idol television program. Each of twelve participants were required to sing one of the artist’s songs. Stevie Wonder performed “My Love Is on Fire” live during one of the shows. Most recently, Wonder made a guest appearance on Busta Rhymes' new record, The Big Bang on the track “Been through the Storm” the performer sings the refrain and plays the piano on the Dr. Dre and Sha Money XL produced song. Later, he appeared on one of the tracks of Snoop Dogg's new record, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, “Conversations”.
The singer performed at the Washington, D.C. 2006 “A Capitol Fourth” celebration that was hosted by Jason Alexander.
In July 2007, Wonder traveled to Montana as he had heard that it was the “hottest place” in the United States and he wanted to know how that “felt”. In fact, he performed at Charles Schwab’s 70th birthday party at Schwab's Stock Farm in the Bitterroot valley.
In August 2007, Wonder announced the “A Wonder Summer's Night” thirteen-concert tour. It is actually his first tour across the United States over 10 years. San Diego is the first city on the schedule with subsequent concerts in Lake Tahoe, Saratoga, Santa Barbara, Concord, and Los Angeles. The remaining cities are Portland, Oregon; Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; Woodinville, Baltimore, Maryland; Washington; Detroit, Michigan; and Boston, Massachusetts.
