Phoenix Coyotes Newsletter - February 2007The Phoenix Coyotes franchise is presently the oldest National Hockey League team, which has never participated in the Stanley Cup Finals. It is also the only NHL franchise from the old WHA that has never won a Stanley Cup championship. The Phoenix Coyotes, led by Shane Doan, hoped for a happy return to Winnipeg at the end of September 2006, after having played a pre-season game against the Oilers. Several thought it might be close, however, Shane Doan's anticipated "happy return to Winnipeg" did not come even close, as the Phoenix Coyotes were defeated 5-0, despite outshooting the Oilers by a mere margin of 27-26.
