Qwest Field was built in 2002, it was built to accommodate both football and soccer events and is home to the Seattle Seahawks and men’s and women’s soccer teams both called the Seattle Sounders.
The architecture of this stadium is unique because it was designed to keep the cheers of the fans in the perimeters and more sound reaches this playing field than at any other open arena. The field is made of artificial field turf and there are enough seats for around 67,000 visitors, but in case of a special event it is possible to increase the seating capacity to around 72,000.
Its present name started in 2004 after Qwest Company purchased naming rights for a 15 year time period. Qwest Field was built on the same spot that the earlier Major League stadium was located, the Kingdome. That stadium was knocked down to make way for the new construction.
Some major events and competitions are hosted by Qwest Field. Examples are the NCAA Seattle Bowl and the Battle in Seattle. It is also the home of the Washington State Cougars and the Washington Huskies have rights to play there for one year. Qwest Field is responsible mainly for sporting events.
