The Philanthropist is a play that pokes fun at the insular academic life. Not to be confused with the upcoming television series of the same name, this play turns more on character than it does on plot. The main character is Philip, a philology lecturer at a university. In that role, he knows the strength of words and the dangers of using them without considerable thought. This brings him, however, quite a bit of trouble. He is unable to do anything in life without deep thought and consideration. He becomes indecisive. To the people in his life, he is overly nice and unable to get out of his self-made prison of words. For example, his fiancée tries to get some kind of angry response out of him and he hardly reacts. He might just make a simile or just debate instead of actually responding. Matthew Broderick stars as Philip in the current performance of this show with the Roundabout Theatre Company. The Philanthropist theater tickets are available from Vivid Seats today!

The Eugene O’Neill Theatre keeps presenting good shows. The upcoming 15 week engagement of a great show is going to be a very interesting one. The name of the show is 33 Variations, a show written by Moises Kaufman, which includes lots of music. Jane Fonda will star in this interesting and thought-provoking show, in her first appearance on Broadway in many years. The show is about musicologist Katherine Brandt who is researching Ludwig van Beethoven’s obsessive composition of the Diabelli Variations. There are parallel plots involved where Katherine goes from the time of Beethoven to the present time, finding that his concern about his health and prestige is exactly the same as her own. They are both working against time to figure out their respective riddles. Along the way, she begins to discover, understand, and worry about her own legacy in the world. It is a show that will really make you think about your own life and hopefully make some discoveries of your own. Even though it’s a cold January, and even though you might be looking for a comedy show to see to ward off the winter blues, you probably haven’t thought of checking out a French comedy play. The play is called God of Carnage, or “Le Dieu de Carnage” in its original name. It’s not a problem if you don’t happen to speak French, though, because the play has been translated into English for the current Broadway production. What is the play about? Two schoolboys, Ferdinand and Bruno, were playing a game at school called God of Carnage and Ferdinand breaks two of Bruno’s teeth. The parents decide to have a get-together to discuss the situation and before long they start arguing just like their children. It’s not hard to understand why either: one set of parents is relatively wealthy and live the fast-paced urban life; the parents are lower-middle class and are outside the mainstream. At the same time, each parent doesn’t get along with the other all that well either. The result is a chaotic clash of personalities that will surely have you laughing out loud. So find your God of Carnage New York tickets on our site today!

Did you know that Dolly Parton wrote a musical? She sings, she dances, she writes musicals! It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? But her musical 9 to 5 is going to start its run on Broadway in just a matter of weeks. If the name sounds familiar, it will be because there was a movie by the same name in 1980. In fact, the movie was the original version of the musical; there wasn’t a stage show first. The song, “9 to 5”, from the movie, earned Parton an Academy Award nomination and was all over the charts in 1980. Then we didn’t hear about this musical for awhile. But now it’s back! It was first given a public reading on January 19, 2007, where people got the chance to experience it again, but live for the first time. The cast is now chosen, with great actors like Allison Janney (of West Wing fame) and Stephanie J. Block in the ensemble. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, this is one of the biggest new musicals of the year. And you can get a jump on your fellow fans by getting your 9 to 5 musical tickets on our site today!

For the first time, the People’s Republic of China is producing a show on Broadway. Soul of Shaolin will be playing at the Marquis Theater from January 13th-31st in a limited engagement. This show features perhaps 33 Chinese actors, dancers and artists, who are ambassadors of a sort for the Chinese government in a major production on the New York stage. The show is about a young man named Hui Guang, who is separated from his mother in a war and ends up joining the Shaolin monks. He has to learn the way of the Shaolin, according to the ancient traditions and begins to discover who he is and what he’s really made of. The main attribute of the cast is that they are all highly trained and skilled Kung Fu masters, so you can expect the martial art to play a large part in the production itself. This is expected to be a very impressive show despite its short engagement. Who knows, maybe it will stay on Broadway longer. But why take that chance? Come to our site and find your Soul of Shaolin tickets today!

Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote South Pacific in the late 1940’s and it remains one of the favorite musicals of all time. It opened in 1949 at the Majestic Theater on Broadway. Since then, it has been remade in many ways. It has been adapted for film and has been revived several times for both Broadway and for various other tours. And who wouldn’t like it? Songs like “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Younger Than Springtime”, and “Bali Hai” have become some of the most popular songs in musical theater. The story takes place in World War Two and it’s about American sailors who fall in love with local women while stationed there. It is really an enjoyable show and it’s no surprise that it’s been revived again. Right now, South Pacific is playing in New York City, at the Lincoln Center. Order your South Pacific New York musical tickets and "some enchanted evening", you will see a great musical!

“In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight.” This is the beginning of one of the best songs in the musical The Lion King. As one of the most popular shows from Broadway in recent years, The Lion King packs theaters wherever it goes throughout the nation. This production utilizes puppet-like costumes and it is described by many as one of the most innovative shows Broadway has ever produced. But this show isn’t just in big cities or on Broadway. For example, right now, The Lion King is being performed in Indianapolis. You might not expect such a major musical to be produced in Indianapolis, but it’s a great thing that outstanding shows can attract crowds in places like your own hometown. And it’s even better that they get the chance to come to smaller cities like Indianapolis. It doesn’t happen everyday and the show’s in Indianapolis only until the 28th. You need to grab your Lion King Indianapolis tickets now, because you don’t want to miss it!

The musical that etched its place in the turbulent 1960s is being revived and brought back to broadway. Hair, the first rock musical that openly challenged many societal norms and policies of Vietnam, is slated to return to the theater in early 2009. The musical was both loved and despised during its original four year run from the late 60s into early 70s. Hair was a raw, voyeuristic view into the lives of politically active hippies fighting against conscription while living bohemian lifestyles together. With its daring portrayal of illicit drug use, sexual exploration, irreverence towards American ideals and the flag, profane language, and nude scenes, Hair was unforgettable. It was a celebration of pure freedom on the stage, even evidenced at the very end when audience members were actively encouraged to join the cast on stage for the finale. Now that Hair is returning to the stage, a whole new generation can experience what their parents and grandparents before them enjoyed or despised, and we’ve got the Hair broadway tickets you need to see it live!

Perhaps one of the more memorable (as well as successful) characters that Will Ferrell portrayed on the stages of SNL was his masterful portrayal of George W. Bush. After he and SNL parted ways, it didn't seem as though any one would ever again be able to enjoy Will Ferrell do his presidential thing. And now with new president elect Obama only a mere month away from replacing Bush, the chances became even slimmer of seeing Ferrell as George W. Then again, when he finally leaves office, the gloves can completely come off...something of which Ferrell seems to be completely aware. Partnering up with Adam McKay (SNL, Anchorman, Step Brothers), Ferrell has crafted a one man Broadway show entitled: "You're Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush." The details of the show are somewhat hush-hush at the moment, as far as plot/content go, but it is scheduled to have a continuous run from February 5th to March 15th 2009. Though it's a short run of only about one month, we've got the You’re Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush tickets you need.
