Jerry Seinfeld Background InformationBest known for the extremely popular 1989-1998 NBC sitcom, Seinfeld (originally the Seinfeld Chronicles), Jerry Seinfeld is a famous comedian and writer from New York. He was born in 1954 in Brooklyn to a cosmopolitan and Jewish family. After attending Queens College and performing various productions there, he started doing stand-up and appeared at an open mic at Catch A Rising A Star into 1976 before appearing in an HBO Rodney Dangerfield special. After a short run on the Benson show in 1979, Seinfeld was fired. He moved on to make a successful appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1981. After that he became a regular on the nightly talk show scene. In 1989 he developed the sitcom, Seinfeld, with Larry David where he played a semi-fictional version of himself with the show focusing on situational comedy. It became one of the most popular shows in America and ran from 1989 to 1998 winning ten Emmys along the way. After Seinfeld concluded, he returned to stand-up comedy. He is considered one of the greatest comedians of all time. He has also written the best seller, Seinlanguage (1993), as well as a children’s book, Halloween (2002). His most recent work in the media was starring in the computer animated Bee Movie released in 2007. He currently tours around the United States performing his stand-up routine. |
