About Last Comic Standing

This reality show, produced by Peter Engel, is a talent show that debuted in 2003 on NBC. The show follows the typical talent reality show format, open casting calls are had, the comedians chosen must compete against each other in front of live audiences who then vote for their favorite. As the number of comedians dwindles down, the voting is transferred from the studio audience to the television audience. The winner (or the “last comic standing”) would win a contract with NBC and specials with Bravo and Comedy Central. The show also fuses together other aspects of reality shows into theirs. Like the real world, the comics are shown living together. Like Survivor, the comedians must perform challenges each week for immunity such as performing at a Laundromat or working as a tour guide in Los Angeles. Each comic would also pick a comedian they believed they were funnier than and the two would go against each other in front of the live audience. Now in its 6th season, Bill Bellamy and UK correspondent Fearne Cotton host Last Comic Standing. This season established comedians act as talent scouts and narrow down the search for America’s newest comedian.
The Last Comic Standing Tour takes last seasons winner, Iliza Schlesinger and previous season winners around the country to perform their newly tailored stand-up routines.
