History of 311

311 is a band from Omaha, Nebraska. This band is responsible for many musical styles which include hip hop, punk, funk, reggae and alternative rock. It has been operative since 1989 to-date. This band consists of 5 members Sa Martinez (Vocal, Turntables), Nick Hexum (Vocal, Guitar), Chad Sexton (Percussion), P-Nut (Bass), Tim Mahoney (Guitar).

The first major record of 311 was released in 1993 but it failed to bring any sales. This caused them to finance their own tour after Capricorn pulled out the tour support when the album failed. But this tour brought more disasters with it when the vehicle on which they were touring caught fire. The only door out of the vehicle was also engulfed in fire. The band had to jump through the door to save themselves. This fire not only cost heavily on the self financed tour for the band but also all the possessions and equipment of the band were lost. However, the band never gave up and continued the tour using borrowed equipment.

After a bit difficult start 311 enjoyed commercial success and won over a widespread fan base. They released a self-titled album in 1995 after which nearly all of their albums made it to the top 15 in Billboard 200. Nineteen of their singles have been aired on radio airplay after “Do You Right” in 1993. Five out of these 19 singles made it to the top three in Billboard's Modern Rock Track. Since their formation 311 has performed many concerts in numerous tours around the world. Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, USA, Denmark are just a few names where the band has performed.
