In 2005, John released his first all-new record since In Spite of Ourselves. Entitled Fair and Square, tended toward a more laid-back acoustic approach than Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings. The release contains such compositions as Safety Joe (it is about a man, who has never taken any risks in his entire life) and Some Humans Ain't Human (it is the singer's protest piece on the record that talks about the ugly side of human nature). His beautiful Fair and Square won the 2006 Grammy Award in the category Best Contemporary Folk Album.
The same year, Americana Music Awards marked another significant achievement for the musician. During the September 9th ceremony, the singer was honored with the Artist of the Year award. It was accepted in his name by the host of the ceremony and his long-time friend Billy Bob Thornton. Unlike most other online ticket companies and auction websites, all transactions on Vividseats.com are guaranteed.
