An intriguing matchup is in store for the 2014 Fiesta Bowl, which will pit the Baylor Bears against the Central Florida Knights for the first time ever, including both the regular season and bowl games. For both schools, the New Year’s Day contest at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., will be especially notable, as it will mark the first time the Knights and Bears have each qualified for a BCS bowl game, accomplishing the feat just in time before a more traditional playoff system is implemented beginning next season.
UCF will be looking to make it three straight in the postseason, having claimed victory in its last two appearances in the 2012 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl and the 2010 AutoZone Liberty Bowl. The Knights also will fight to keep their school-best eight-game winning streak intact since early October following the squad’s lone loss on the year to South Carolina. Baylor’s season also was marked by noteworthy success, as the Bears captured the program’s first Big 12 title since 1980 and led the NCAA in total offense, averaging an astounding 624.5 yards and 53.3 points per game.
