Meineke Car Care Bowl Background Information

The Meineke Car Care Bowl is certified to and operated by Charlotte-based Raycom Sports and sanctioned by NCAA. It has averaged over 62,000 fans each year, with two sellouts. In 2003, the game was nominated one of the five best sports start-ups in the past five years by the Sports Business Journal, behind the Houston Texans and ESPN the Magazine.

Being Division I-A post-season college football bowl game, it has been played annually at Bank of America Stadium (accommodating 73,367 people) in Charlotte, NC since 2002.

From 2002 to 2004, the Bowl was known as the Queen City Bowl; then it was called the Continental Tire Bowl after Continental Tire gained the sponsorship. On Tuesday, January 11, 2005, Meineke Car Care Centers became the new title sponsor of the bowl, and the game received its new name. At the present time, the Bowl features a match-up between teams which have ranked at or approximate to #5 in the ACC and the Big East conferences. The latest Bowl took place on December 30, 2006 with two opponent teams the Boston College and the Navy with the Boston College winning a victory over the Navy with 25:24. The next, Sixth-Annual Game, is scheduled for Saturday, December 29, 2007 at its usual venue – Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte at 1:00 PM and will be televised on ESPN.
