The Motor City Bowl is one of the main NCAA-sanctioned post-season American college football bowl games. These games have taken place at the Ford Field Stadium, located in Detroit, Michigan since 2002. Though initially the Motor City Bowl had been held at Pontiac Silverdome, located in Pontiac (1997-2001). The Bowl is funded by three major auto companies Ford, General Motors and Chrysler.
As a rule a team from the MAC and a team from the Big Ten take part in these games, but in case a team from the Big Ten Conference doesn’t manage to score the required minimum, a team from the Big East will be chosen for a game (the team has to score seven wins).
Last year the Big Ten didn’t manage to score the minimum of wins so the bowl welcomed Central Michigan University and Middle Tennessee. The first one won the game by the score of 31 to 14. This match gathered an amazing number of people – the audience of 54,113.
The 2007 season bowl game will be held on December, 26. The participants are still unknown, though Michigan Spartans have good chances to be picked up for the game. Entering the final week of the conference games they have scored six wins, so they should score another win to go bowling. Now everything depends on their match with Penn State. If the team wins it will have good chances for the first post-season appearance after three years in succession of failing to compete for the bowl. The Spartans are more likely to be chosen for the home bowl competition in case other rivals score the same points. Make sure to purchase your Motor City Bowl tickets in advance if you want to visit one of the most spectacular post-season matches.
