2013 Sun Bowl: UCLA vs. Virginia Tech

Start your New Year's Eve off right with this 2013 Sun Bowl afternoon matchup between the UCLA Bruins and Virginia Tech Hokies at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. In the same vein as many other bowl games this season, the contest, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, will mark the first-ever meeting between UCLA and Virginia Tech. The Bruins have participated in the Sun Bowl three times previously, most recently in 2005 when they topped Northwestern, while the Hokies will be competing in the Sun Bowl for just the second time and first since the program's first-ever bowl game bid way back in 1947.

Both schools have been regular contenders in the postseason over the years, with UCLA having qualified for its 33rd bowl game, and for Virginia Tech, it's No. 27, as well as the 21st straight for the program, which also is the second-longest streak in the country behind Florida State's 32. With Virginia Tech equipped with one of the strongest defenses in the country this season, and UCLA's offense helmed by a top-25 quarterback in Brett Hundley, the matchup is expected to be one of the best non-BCS bowl games this year.
