2012 Sun Bowl: USC Trojans vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Independence Day may be the first holiday that comes to mind when you think of fireworks, but come New Year's Eve the matchup in this year's Sun Bowl should provide more than enough fireworks to light up El Paso, Texas. Standing as the first program to play two consecutive Sun Bowls since New Mexico State in 1959-60, the ACC's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-7) are headed to Sun Bowl Stadium once again, but this year they face the Pac-12's marquee program in the USC Trojans (7-5), which bodes well for plenty of excitement. It’ll be the first time in almost a fifteen years these powerhouse programs meet, and USC is coming off a two-year bowl ban and a disappointing season that had them fall from the No. 1 ranking, so they’ll be looking to make a statement on the national stage.
USC is in the Sun Bowl for the third time ever, and it's their first since losing in 1998 to TCU. Led by quarterback Max Wittek and the dynamic duo of receivers Marqise Lee and Robert Woods, the Trojans' passing attack puts up 297 yards per game and will be in direct battle with the Yellow Jackets' run-heavy scheme that’s helped them put up 34.5 points per game. The Ramblin’ Wreck are hoping to redeem themselves from last year’s hard fought, 24-10 overtime loss to Utah in the 78th edition of the Sun Bowl. Kick off for this one is set for noon on December 31st, so get your Sun Bowl tickets now and be there live for what’s sure to be a night of incredible college football.
