ScarJo Set to Star in 2013 Revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Anytime one of Hollywood’s biggest stars makes the shift from the silver screen to the stage, musical theatre fans will be intrigued, but when they take on starring roles in classics like Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” the word “buzz” becomes a mammoth understatement. That’s the case this season as starlet Scarlett Johansson is set to play the lead role in the tale of a southern plantation family bickering over the inheritance of a cotton tycoon. Williams' effort is always a hugh draw, but Johansson’s presence as “Maggie the Cat” has made this already much-anticipated show one of the must-see’s of the season.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be directed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford, who is also set to choreograph the upcoming 85th Annual Academy Awards, and the show is set to open on January 17th at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York. The other starring roles will go to Ciaran Hinds as Big Daddy, Benjamin Walker as Brick, and Debra Monk as Big Momma. For Johansson, it won’t be her first musical rodeo, as she has already won a Tony Award in her Broadway debut in 2010's rendition of “A View from the Bridge,” the Arthur Miller classic. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof tickets are on sale now, so make sure to get yours to witness this fine performance live.
