Football at South Dakota Mines kicked off in 1895 in Rapid City, and the Hardrockers have built a proud tradition of grit and ingenuity. The program owns a stack of SDIC conference crowns, highlighted by unbeaten title runs in 1938 and 1951 and a flurry of championships under coach Gary Boner in the early 1980s. Every fall, the Black Hills Brawl versus Black Hills State renews one of Division II’s most-played rivalries, with the Homestake Trophy on the line and memories made for a lifetime. O’Harra Stadium’s intimate 4,000-seat Dunham Field puts fans close to the action, where tailgates hum and a spirited student section turns equations into noise. And the 2018 night Connor Silveria set the NCAA Division II single-game rushing record with 425 yards still sparks cheers. If you love high-effort football against a stunning Black Hills backdrop, this is your game day.
