Founded in 1911 in Jackson, Mississippi, Jackson State Tigers football blends tradition with swagger that resonates across the SWAC. The Tigers have piled up conference championships and Black College National Championships, propelled by legends like Walter Payton and Hall of Fame coach W. C. Gorden, and turbocharged in recent years by a high-profile run under Deion Sanders. Year after year, the schedule circles two must-watch showdowns, the Soul Bowl against Alcorn State and the BoomBox Classic with Southern.

Game day at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, affectionately called The Vet, feels like a citywide celebration. The Sonic Boom of the South sets the tempo, the student section surges, and tailgates spill into the streets as fans belt out Thee I Love. It is intense, welcoming, and unmistakably Jackson State.
