Founded in 1892 in Macon, Georgia, Mercer Bears football blends deep state roots with a modern FCS rise. After a 72-year hiatus, the program relaunched in 2013 and quickly found its footing. The Bears earned their first FCS playoff win in 2023, a 17-7 victory over Gardner-Webb, then captured the Southern Conference championship in 2024. Mercer also helped write Georgia football history in 1892 by defeating Georgia Tech in the Yellow Jackets’ first-ever game. Recent head coach Mike Jacobs collected SoCon Coach of the Year honors in 2024, signaling a new standard in Macon.
