Founded in 1913 in Carbondale, Illinois, Southern Illinois Salukis Football blends grit with a proud regional identity rooted in Little Egypt. The Salukis captured the 1983 NCAA Division I-AA national championship and have stacked multiple Missouri Valley Football Conference titles, plus deep postseason runs powered by coaches like Jerry Kill. Iconic names such as Brandon Jacobs and Jeremy Chinn carried that edge to the NFL, giving fans plenty to cheer about.

Game days at 15,000-seat Saluki Stadium feel personal and electric. The Dawg Pound sets the tone, the Marching Salukis keep it rolling, and the team’s Saluki Walk past the King Tut pyramid links generations. Tailgating near the stadium fills the air with maroon pride before kickoff. Circle the annual War for the Wheel with Southeast Missouri State, a backyard rivalry that reliably raises the volume and delivers the kind of moments fans never forget.
