Ridgewood Country Club to Reprise Hosting Duties for The Barclays 2014
The Barclays will return to Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., from Aug. 21-24 for the 2014 edition of the annual tournament. Since 2007, the event has served as the launch pad for the FedEx Cup playoff system that also includes the Deutsche Bank Championship, BMW Championship, and Tour Championship. Though previously held exclusively at Westchester Country Club, The Barclays has rotated sites since 2007, which included stops at Ridgewood in 2008 and 2010. Incidentally, the next two installments are set to take place at brand new sites as Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J., has been booked for 2015 and for the historic 50th edition in 2016, The Barclays will make its debut at the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Historically, only five players have won the tournament more than once since its inception in 1967, including Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, and Vijay Singh. Of the group, only Garcia is currently in a position to add to his total and enters The Barclays ranked No. 4 in the world. Meanwhile, No. 2 Adam Scott is the defending champ and will seek to become the first player to repeat at The Barclays since Ernie Els accomplished the feat in 1996 and 1997.
