Wofford Terriers football took root in 1889 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, launching a program that still energizes the Upstate every fall. Competing in the FCS, Wofford has stacked Southern Conference championships in 2003, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2019, highlighted by a 2003 run to the national semifinals. Fans know the names Mike Ayers, the 30-year head coach who defined the modern era, and Eric Breitenstein, a Payton Award finalist who bulldozed SoCon defenses. The annual clash with nearby Furman dates to 1889, the first college football game played in South Carolina, and still sets the tone for the season.

Home Saturdays at 13,000-seat Gibbs Stadium feel personal and loud. Tailgates line the campus, the student section packs in early, Terrier Walk welcomes the team, and families gravitate to TerrierLand. It is classic college football in a setting built for memorable moments.
