With something like thirty days and an approximately equal number of games left in the MLB season, every team is looking to make that last push to guarantee their playoff berth. While there is some contestation in the N.L. (Mets and Philadelphia mainly), the A.L. East and Central is really heating up between first and second places, which is also causing some inter-divisional pressure as well. The Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, and Chicago White Sox are all in a pretty interesting four-way dance. Meanwhile, in the A.L. West, the Angels (barring team plane crash or multiple spontaneous combustions) are guaranteed a playoff spot. However, back to the East and Central divisions. It basically plays like this: Currently, the Rays are winning the A.L. East by a 3.5 game lead over Boston who, at this very moment is in extra innings with New York. The White Sox are currently winning the A.L. Central by a 1 game lead over the Twins. Simple so far, but it gets much more interesting. Chicago, Minnesota, and Boston all have relatively the same record, only a few games separating them. Even Tampa Bay is fairly close in standings. These four teams have far superior records over any one in the A.L. West so the wild card berth will go to one of them. This ultimately means that one of them will not make it into postseason play. As September winds down, every single game for these four teams will have huge effects on their playoff chances. If you want to be a part of the titillating action visit our MLB page for ticket information.

Though NCAA Football may take the spotlight as soon as the new school year begins, NCAA basketball waits not far off in the shadows. While the nose tackles and linebackers are grinding it out on the gridiron, the guards and forwards are running suicides and ladders to get into shape for the winter/spring. In preseason power rankings, it should come to no surprise that Duke, UCLA, and UNC are among the top ten favorites to win it this year. However, also included in those lists are: Georgetown, Kansas (defending champions), Memphis, Tennessee, and Xavier; all teams with the potential to win the NCAA Championship in April. Teams like UCLA and UNC will face additional challenges this season. UCLA loses its freshman star Kevin Love to the Minnesota Timberwolves and will have to find a suitable replacement to put up similar numbers. UNC also lost key players, but also faces problems with Ty Lawson who was arrested for DUI earlier in the summer. He may face probation from the NCAA. As it stands, the NCAA title is quite up for grabs. If you want to see NCAA basketball live, visit our NCAA basketball page.
As a folk rock legend, Neil Young knows how to pick ‘em, or does he? He has enlisted bands Wilco and Death Cab for Cutie to open for him on his 2008 fall tour. With Wilco’s folksy acoustic songs (especially off the album Being There and their covers of Woody Guthrie songs with Billy Bragg on the Mermaid Avenue Sessions album), it’s easy to see into Young’s train of thought. But where did Death Cab for Cutie come into play? Yeah Death Cab is a low-key band and all but low key in that whining sort of way, not low key in the Neil Young gentle rocking tunes sort of way. Research indicates that Death Cab lead singer Ben Gibbard has been known to cover songs by artists from Avril Lavigne to Nirvana and has in fact covered Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” on tour. Maybe Neil Young was surfing YouTube and saw it. Maybe Neil Young likes Death Cab. Maybe Neil Young’s choice in opening bands isn’t so bad. Who knows? And if you don’t agree with Death Cab then buy tickets to see Wilco open from late November to early December or see Death Cab open from mid-October to early November. But most importantly, lets not forget who the main headliner is and cast all opening band wonder to the side. All the bands on this bill are successful in their respective genres and the show is going to be phenomenal so don’t miss out and buy tickets now!
Oh yes people. This is what it's all about. No balls, no sticks, no helmets, no javelins, no nets, etc. The Ultimate Fighting Championship is laying out some huge fights in the upcoming months. First and foremost, Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell will be returning to the octagon on September 6th. Liddell, the poster boy for the UFC, was largely responsible for the recent popularity explosion the UFC has undergone. With his incredible knockout power and sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seats matches, Liddell is eager to reclaim his Light Heavyweight belt. Undefeated Rashad Evans is standing in his way, however, and he is not going to back down. This fight will have great ramifications on each fighter. Liddell, if he wins, will inch ever closer to his belt. If Evans wins, he will have beaten one of the biggest UFC legends in history, and his title shot would be right around the corner. Only a little over a month after this event on October 25th, Anderson "The Spider" Silva will attempt to continue his UFC dominance streak against 14-4 Patrick Cote. Anderson Silva is simply the most explosively exciting fighter in the UFC today. Always loose and relaxed, middleweight Anderson has the knockout power of a heavyweight, and the agility of Romanian woman's gymnast. Check out UFC tickets now because these are two events you don't want to miss.
Fall time is beautiful isn't it? The leaves begin their beautifully exotic color transformations; the outside air cools down, making a night time walk with your special sweetheart a real keen time; Mr. Swanson takes daily walks with his old bloodhound Zeek...and the new college running back's kidney absorbs the impact from the helmet of a 250-pound, barreling linebacker. Yes sir. It's college football time. All the career ending knee injuries, multiple concussions, and broken bones that the professionals get paid to suffer through, these young adults do it only in exchange for education. And while the first match is August 28th between Buffalo and Texas El-Paso, football pundits are already beginning to declare who will play in what bowl and win by how much. Early favorites include: Ohio State, Missouri, USC, Oklahoma, and Georgia. It's way too early to predict champions, though. It isn't too early to get tickets, however. Check out our NCAA Football page for tickets to NCAA football matches this season.

The success of the USA Redeem Team in Beijing is quite obvious. Not since the days of the 1992 Dream Team has the USA Olympic basketball team looked this impressive. So far, they have yet to meet their match. But the success of the team off the court is equally obvious. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James jerseys are among the most popular and fastest selling apparel in China right now...a fact that has NBA commissioner David Stern engaged in heavy thoughts and talk about bringing the NBA to China. Though they will be independent from the official NBA, Stern has plans for 8-12 NBA affiliated teams to be introduced to the sprawling country of China. India would be a possible follow up country for expansion of the NBA. But, that’s all a little in the future. At this point in time, Stern just wants to continue NBA exhibition games within China. Assuming that things go according to Stern’s plan, however, Yao Ming may be able to work from home again.
