The Subway 400 was the race, which used to take place in Rockingham at the North Carolina
Speedway racetrack since 1966. It was a 400-mile race of 393 laps. Originally the race was of 500
miles distance. It took place till 1995. The race was called the Carolina 500 from 1966 till 1985,
then the Goodwrench 500 (1986-1995). In 1996, the distance was changed to 400 miles. And at first
it was regarded as the Goodwrench Service 400 (1996 - 1997), then - as the KMart/Dura Lube 400
(1998-2001). Only in 2002 supported by Subway, the race got its most recent name. The Subway 400
was held till 2004. It was the second race of the NASCAR Nextel Cup and took place a week after the
Daytona 500.
But in 2005 the North Carolina Speedway racetrack was closed after the Ferko lawsuit. Not it is
a track for NASCAR testing and the home-track of the Buck Baker Driving School.
