ACC Championship Game Biography

First Game: Florida State vs Virginia Tech
Past Venues: Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Raymond James Stadium, Bank of America Stadium
Game MVPs: Sam Swank, Tyrod Taylor, C. J. Spiller
Most Appearances: Virginia Tech Hokies

The Atlantic Coast Conference's decision to opt to a championship game format has already yielded some great memories. The inaugural game was played at EverBank Field (then Alltel Stadium) and featured the #22-ranked Florida State Seminoles vs the #5-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. Coach Bobby Bowden's men played the role of the spoiler brilliantly, ousting Va Tech 27-22 after four hard fought quarters. Wake Forest and Georgia Tech followed up the very first ACC Championship game with an old-fashioned hardnosed battle in which the Demon Deacons prevailed 9-6 over the Yellow Jackets. Other fans in the Atlantic Coast region have been fortunate enough to see the game up close with the contest changing venues multiple times. Although still in its infancy, the ACC Championship game seems to get bigger and better every year.
